This is one of the most diabolical abuses rendered by a narcissist. My ex religious-narc wanted to keep me down and ‘use’ my technical skills/experience to better his ‘ministry.’ He was not happy about my aspiration to teach at the college level and he subtly would do things to sabotage and discourage me- this was one of many red flags that helped me escape from him.
